overview of services

At ActivePlanning we want to support you at every stage of your project.

strategic foundations and project definition.

  • Developing strategic vision, policy, and design principles for planning and transport, particularly active travel.

  • Emphasising good connectivity on foot, cycle, and public transport from the earliest stages of site masterplanning and during formal design reviews.

inclusive stakeholder engagement.

Working with engagement specialists, we involve and mobilise local communities, businesses, and others, gaining the benefits of their local knowledge, gauging support for proposals, and building confidence among project promoters.

assembling and commissioning baseline evidence

We commission or carry out research in support of robust and defensible policies, strategies, and implementation plans. This includes, for example, on-site surveys and assessments, community engagement activities, demand modelling, and GIS sieve mapping.

preparing clear, robust, and accessible narratives

We prepare convincing and easy-to-follow narratives for local plans, transport strategies, infrastructure delivery plans, local cycling and walking infrastructure plans, masterplans, and design-and-access statements.

preparing compelling funding bids

Supported by our strong track record, we can prepare funding bid narratives that help you build support among colleagues and politicians for investment in active travel. We can commission supporting technical inputs including demand modelling, feasibility design, GIS mapping, CGI imagery, and DfT-compliant business cases as required. We can also provide graphic design services.

designing concept cycle infrastructure

With professional engineering support, we can design concept active travel infrastructure layouts to RIBA1 that meet the design standards set out in the Government's standard for cycle infrastructure design set out in LTN1/20. This can be at a network level, with strategic suggestions, or at a detailed level, helping to find ways of resolving particular design challenges. For complex civil engineering designs including carriageway or footway construction,  embankments, cuttings, bridges, and signalised crossing design, we refer to specialist partner consultancies.
