Transport East Interim Infrastructure Development Plan
Transport East is a sub-national transport body and part of the East of England Local Government Association representing Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Southend and Thurrock county and unitary authorities. It is modelled on similar sub-national bodies set up elsewhere in the country that have a legal status due to the Government's Levelling Up policies and aims for the same status.
As part of its new CEO's 100 day plan, ActivePlanning was commissioned to engage with senior transport managers at each of the authorities and develop an Interim Infrastructure Development Plan (iIDP) that could be used to lobby for increased Government funding in this vitally important region. Working closely with the client team, we prepared the iIDP's text narrative and recorded all major transport schemes under geographically-themed headings and a funding table. The iIDP will be used to inform the development of Transport East's forthcoming detailed transport plans.
The iIDP provides an overview of transport strategies for road and rail linking the major settlements, employment areas and ports that form the bedrock of the region's sustainable economic development into the future. The East is also the country's principal location for North Sea wind farm development, where shallow waters and reliable wind have enabled the largest cluster of wind farms in Europe.
